Enhanced sustainability thanks to intelligent design
Modifications to the design of laminate tubes produced for Eveline Cosmetics by Polish tubemaker Elpes have significantly improved their sustainability rating. The main goal was to design a tube shoulder that is lighter but still maintains the required strength. The solution was to reshape the shoulder and replace some of the material with supporting ribs. The result is truly remarkable. The rib structure means the shoulder maintains its stability but there is still a significant saving in PE material: up to 20 per cent for the 50 mm diameter tube with its 150 ml volume. Besides a significant reduction in material waste and energy consumption, there is also a significant reduction in the tube weight. Regardless of the ecological benefits, the successful execution of the tube demonstrates that attractive design is no longer irreconcilable with sustainability goals.
