From Waste to Tube
Under the promising sounding slogan ‘From Waste to Tube’, Nussbaum Kesswil AG from Switzerland is presenting a tube made from 100% post-consumer recycled aluminium. According to the company, this tube is the first of its kind that does not contain any primary aluminium whatsoever. The concept behind it is really convincing. The starting material is mono-material aluminium scrap from consumer goods that have been returned to collection points for recycling. The scrap collected is then pressed, converted into slugs and processed into tubes using the conventional impact extrusion production process. This means that for the first time the Swiss tube producer has been able to create a circular-economy material flow by turning waste into tubes. This fantastic sustainability concept benefits from the geographical proximity of all parties involved, as there are only 150 km between the collection point, the aluminium processor and the tube manufacturer. This is an optimal situation that supports the sustainability goal even more.
